CRITICAL MASS COLLECTION (2020)

The Critical Mass Collection is inspired by the massive density of a Neutron Star; a star that is close to collapse and form a Black Hole. The chalices are solid and heavy; designed with reclaimed birch wood from England.

The process transforms the material to create beautiful mathematical singularities that deceive the observer in space and shape. Its inconspicuous density is a reminder of the incredible amount of waste we generate.

By compressing singular layers of material together to create dense matter, the material is then exposed through a centrifugal process of high speed and force. The aesthetics of the vase are best represented by the rules of Japanese composition, “Ichirin Zashi”, the art of placing a single stem of dry nature on a vase.

“Award-winning Arturo Soto creates evocative pieces in many materials but extols the virtues of the beauty and importance of designing without waste.”

- Jay Blades, Eco Designer

MEMORIES OF GREEN COLLECTION (2019)

The Memories of Green collection is the direct representation of the brand itself. Created with the visionary concept of revolutionising a collection of living sculptures. It takes inspiration from the chalice, the purest form of adoration combined with a science fiction representation of supernatural biological sculptures suspended in the air by a pedestal.

“There is something magical about a bonsai tree, but Arturo Soto takes this fascinating hybrid of art and horticulture to another level”

- Anna Murphy, Fashion Director of The Times

The pieces intend to show chalices as the ultimate form of adoration, worshipping nature as sacred monoliths of tranquillity and meditation. Memories of Green aims to take two entirely different processes and fuse them in perfect balance: The fast and violent process of woodturning frozen in time and space and the ever-growing tranquillity of plants. A living environment of rich and living ecosystems combined with a pedestal made with reclaimed and recycled wood.

“London-based Mexican designer Arturo Soto creates beautiful pots and pedestals for bonsai trees, using gleaming recycled wood.”

- Hannah Silver, Writer and editor Wallpaper* Magazine

EVENT HORIZON COLLECTION (2018)

The Event Horizon Collection consists of luxurious wooden chalices from both reclaimed and recycled materials. The collection focuses on showcasing the beauty of damaged, decayed and otherwise typically considered unusable wood.

In astrophysics, an event horizon is most commonly associated with the limits around the gravitational force of a black hole, where its magnitude is so strong that not even light; the fastest element in our universe can escape. This singularity is often known as The Event Horizon, the point of no return…

The pieces get their inspiration from chalices and offering vases as the ultimate for worshipping and adoration to the earth and the universe. Working closely with the award-winning supplier Saunders Seasoning Timber, Memories of Green worked with reused & reclaimed wood from trees that came down due to disease and would typically be discarded, selecting this wood for its particular imperfect patterns.

As an artist, many of his works are based on elegant curves inspired by calculations of Event Horizons in astrophysics… He strongly believes that the use of recycled and upcycled woods can be used to highlight the beauty of the natural world.”

- Matthew Gaved, Editor of The Turner Magazine

LIKE TEARS IN RAIN COLLECTION (2021)

Like Tears in Rain is a collection inspired by the "C-Beam Speech" and focuses on recycling and reclaiming every little bit of wood waste. The collection will consist of different collections of Sculptural Vases called "Tears”.

Each of these sculptures will beautifully represent the hopelessness of recycling and reclaiming different materials against the massive product pollution battle we face today. The collection is spearheaded to explore the hidden beauty of different kinds of waste and to show there is no excuse to salvage and repurpose waste and thrown away materials.

Different collections will aim to use a different kind of waste in a wonderful, poetic way. The exploration of different elements, processes and techniques will evolve until it completely revolutionises how we perceive and handle waste.
